Winter Weather Update Forecasting Snow Showers and Bitter Cold Temperatures

Winter is settling in with a mix of snow showers and dropping temperatures that will affect daily routines and outdoor plans. This week’s forecast shows a pattern of intermittent snow and chilly winds, creating conditions that require preparation and caution. Whether you commute, enjoy winter sports, or simply want to stay safe and comfortable, understanding the upcoming weather will help you plan ahead.

Snow Showers Expected Through the Week

The coming days will bring several chances of snow showers, mostly light but persistent enough to impact travel and outdoor activities. Today, snow showers are likely before noon, with a 30% chance of precipitation. The snow accumulation will be less than one inch, but roads and sidewalks may become slippery, especially in shaded areas.

Tonight, snow showers may return after 1 a.m., again with a 30% chance of precipitation. Temperatures will drop to around 4 degrees, with wind chill values as low as -5, making it feel colder than the thermometer reads. Little or no snow accumulation is expected overnight, but the cold will make conditions feel harsh.

Thursday will see snow showers likely after 1 p.m., with a 60% chance of precipitation. The snow accumulation could reach less than half an inch. The high temperature will hover near 18 degrees, but wind chill values will make it feel closer to -4. Thursday night continues this trend with snow showers likely before 1 a.m. and a low near -1 degree. Wind chill could drop to -10, so dressing warmly will be essential.

Preparing for Cold and Snow

With temperatures dipping below freezing and wind chills reaching dangerously low levels, it’s important to take steps to stay safe and comfortable:

  • Dress in layers to trap heat and protect against wind chill.

  • Keep sidewalks and driveways clear of snow and ice to prevent slips.

  • Check your vehicle’s winter readiness, including tires, antifreeze, and windshield wipers.

  • Limit outdoor exposure during the coldest parts of the day, especially at night.

  • Keep pets indoors or provide adequate shelter to protect them from the cold.

Weekend Outlook and Beyond

Friday will bring a chance of snow showers with a high near 12 degrees and a 40% chance of precipitation. The cold will persist, with west winds adding to the chill. Friday night continues with a 30% chance of snow showers before 1 a.m. and a low around -3 degrees.

Saturday offers a chance of snow showers before 1 p.m., but skies will become partly sunny later. The high will reach near 14 degrees, providing a slight warm-up. Saturday night will be partly cloudy with a low near -4 degrees.

Sunday looks partly sunny with a high near 17 degrees, offering a break from snow but still cool. Sunday night will be mostly cloudy with a low around 8 degrees.

Looking ahead to Monday and Tuesday, temperatures will rise slightly with highs near 26 and 25 degrees, respectively. However, mostly cloudy skies will continue, and the cold nights will persist with lows around 13 degrees Monday night.

Staying Safe and Informed

This week’s weather calls for vigilance and preparation. Snow showers may not bring heavy accumulation, but the combination of cold temperatures and wind chill can create hazardous conditions. Keep an eye on local weather updates and adjust your plans accordingly.

  • Monitor road conditions before traveling.

  • Use caution when walking on icy surfaces.

  • Ensure heating systems are functioning properly.

  • Stay hydrated and eat well to maintain energy in cold weather.
