With winter settling in, many of us are gearing up for the snow and icy conditions it brings. This afternoon's weather forecast is dominated by snow, suggesting an afternoon filled with wintery challenges and opportunities. Gather around as we break down what to expect today and over the next several days.

This Afternoon's Snow Forecast

Snow is set to begin shortly after 1 PM, with expected accumulations reaching about two inches. Temperatures will remain chilly, peaking at just 30 degrees Fahrenheit, which is ideal for a steady snowfall. Winds from the southeast will blow at about 9 mph, and the probability of precipitation stands at an impressive 100%.

Due to these conditions, roads are likely to become slippery and visibility may be limited. It’s advisable to take these factors into account if you're planning to travel. For example, if you usually take a 20-minute drive, consider leaving a little earlier to navigate the conditions safely.

Tonight's Mixed Precipitation

As night falls, we’ll see a significant shift in the weather. Starting around 3 AM, snow will mix with freezing rain. The temperature is expected to drop to around 27 degrees, complemented by winds from the east at 7 to 10 mph. With another 100% chance of precipitation, new ice accumulation could be less than a tenth of an inch, but we should still expect around two inches of combined snow and sleet.

These conditions may complicate any late-night plans or travel. If you must be on the road, make sure to pack an emergency kit in your car just in case.

Sunday Forecast: Rain and Snow

As we move into Sunday, a wintry mix is in store. The forecast suggests rain and freezing rain, potentially mixed with snow before 1 PM. High temperatures are expected to rise to around 37 degrees, with winds increasing to 13-15 mph and gusts possibly reaching up to 25 mph.

While the probability of precipitation drops slightly to 90%, around a tenth of an inch of ice and less than half an inch of snow accumulation is still on the table. As the day unfolds, rain may take over the snowfall, impacting any outdoor plans you might have. Indoor activities could be a great alternative, especially with family or friends.

Sunday Night: Returning to Snowy Conditions

Sunday evening will bring a return to snow showers, with patchy blowing snow possibly complicating visibility. Overnight lows are anticipated to plummet to around 17 degrees, and wind chills could feel as cold as -1 due to blustery winds nearing 25 mph.

Expect an 80% chance of snow, with about three inches of new accumulation. Given these conditions, travel could prove difficult. If you have evening plans, it's essential to check travel conditions ahead of your trip.
