Syracuse, N.Y. — Several roads are closed Thursday morning because of flooding after heavy rains fell across Central New York.
The flooding comes after summer-like temperatures brought thunderstorms on Wednesday. Rain fell Wednesday afternoon through Thursday morning.
Route five is closed between French Road and Kirkland Avenue due to flooding, according to traffic officials. Route 12B is closed between Seneca Turnpike, Clinton Road and Middle Settlement Road, traffic officials said. Route 12B is also closed between Reservoir Road and South Dugway Road, officials said.
Oneida Creek is currently under a flood warning in Oneida and Madison counties. Caution is needed when walking near the riverbanks, officials said.
Roads were closed in Seneca and Cayuga counties but most have reopened. In Seneca Falls, 911 calls were made for flooding basements, according to weather officials. Roads were also reported to be flooding with stranded vehicles in Seneca County, weather officials said.
All lanes of New York State Route 290, Manlius Center Road, are closed in Manlius between Clemons Road and Minoa Road, according to an alert from the New York State Department of Transportation. The road closed around 4:50 a.m., according to the alert.
Flooding has also closed Route 173, East Seneca Turnpike, between Enders Road and Hale Road, according to an alert.
During Wednesday evening people reported vehicles stranded and roads flooding in Minoa, according to the National Weather Service. The intersection of Route 91 and County Garage Road was closed in DeWitt for several hours due to flooding, according to dispatches from the Onondaga County 911 Center.
Multiple roads in Oneida County remain closed Thursday morning.
