Snowy Forecast Ahead Brace for Heavy Accumulations and Chilly Temperatures

Winter is settling in with a strong presence this week. Expect heavy snow tonight with significant accumulation, followed by several days of snow showers and cold temperatures. This weather pattern will impact daily routines, travel, and outdoor activities. Preparing for these conditions can help you stay safe and comfortable as the snow piles up and temperatures drop.

Tonight’s Heavy Snowfall and Wind Chill

Tonight brings the most intense snow of the week. Snow could be heavy at times, with a new accumulation of around 6 inches expected. Temperatures will drop to around 11 degrees Fahrenheit, but wind chill values will make it feel as cold as -3 degrees. An east wind will blow at 5 to 9 mph before calming after midnight. The chance of precipitation is 100%, so expect steady snow throughout the night.

This heavy snowfall will create slippery roads and reduced visibility. If you must travel, allow extra time and drive cautiously. Clearing driveways and walkways early in the evening can prevent snow buildup and make morning routines easier.

Monday’s Snow Showers and Blowing Snow

Snow showers continue on Monday, with a high near 20 degrees. Winds will be light and variable in the morning but pick up from the west at 6 to 11 mph later in the day. After 1 pm, areas of blowing snow could reduce visibility and create drifting snow on roads and sidewalks. New snow accumulation of around an inch is possible.

Plan outdoor activities with caution. Blowing snow can make walking difficult and increase the risk of slips and falls. Dress warmly and consider postponing non-essential travel during the afternoon.

Monday Night and Tuesday’s Snow Chances

Monday night will bring more snow showers, mainly before 4 am, with temperatures dropping to around 7 degrees and wind chills near -3. Northwest winds will blow at 7 to 11 mph. Snow accumulation of about an inch is possible overnight.

Tuesday will be mostly cloudy with a high near 16 degrees. There is a 50% chance of snow showers during the day, with southwest winds at 7 to 9 mph. Snow showers may continue into Tuesday night, mainly after 1 am, with an 80% chance of precipitation and lows near 8 degrees.

Midweek Snow Showers and Cold Temperatures

Snow showers are likely on Wednesday, mainly before 1 pm, with a high near 18 degrees. The chance of precipitation is 60%. Wednesday night will remain mostly cloudy with a low around 5 degrees and a 30% chance of snow showers after 1 am.

Thursday continues the trend with a 40% chance of snow showers during the day and a high near 16 degrees. Overnight lows will drop to around -1 degree with a 50% chance of snow showers.

Late Week Snow Showers and Weekend Outlook

Friday will bring a 40% chance of snow showers with a high near 13 degrees. Friday night will be mostly cloudy with a low around 1 degree and a 30% chance of snow showers.

The weekend looks less snowy but still cold. Saturday will be mostly cloudy with a high near 17 degrees and a low around 2 degrees Saturday night. Sunday offers some relief with partly sunny skies and a high near 23 degrees.

Preparing for the Snow and Cold

With several days of snow and cold temperatures ahead, preparation is key:

  • Stock up on essentials such as food, water, and medications in case travel becomes difficult.

  • Check heating systems to ensure your home stays warm and safe.

  • Dress in layers and wear insulated, waterproof boots when going outside.

  • Keep emergency supplies in your car, including blankets, a shovel, and ice scraper.

  • Monitor weather updates regularly for any changes in snowfall or temperature.
